Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated leadership; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 13 years of demonstrated leadership..

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Director, Advanced Ground Business Area Segment. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense and intelligence services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

The Advanced Ground Director is responsible for a portfolio of programs that supports current and future Department of Defense space ground systems. This position is responsible for:

  • Directing Business Area Segment day-to-day operational activities and staff to support business area segment goals and objectives;
  • Business development, strategic planning, and R&D activities to ensure business area segment growth and improved profitability; and
  • Directing all business area segment programs from bid to proposal through program start-up, execution, and closedown to ensure the attainment of cost, quality and schedule performance objectives.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Develops & implements Advanced Ground strategies, roadmaps, and cohesive integrated plans for portfolio to meet business and program objectives relating to revenue, margin, quality, and time-to-market
  • Directs strategic planning for business area segment to ensure the preparation of timely and valid strategy-centered plans and periodic review of progress towards strategic goals
  • Directs assigned business area segment programs and program managers to ensure compliance with financial, quality, schedule, and contract requirements as well as GDMS policies and procedures
  • Directs the achievement of cost, quality, schedule and probability objectives for assigned business area segment programs
  • Responsible for the effective implementation of continuous improvement within assigned business area segment and supports implementation throughout GDMS
  • Balances programs, risks and opportunities with executable strategies to meet technical requirements and budgets
  • Prepares and presents program status to leadership and external customers
  • Develops customer relationships and develops new business within the market
  • Manages people who lead department or cross-functional program teams in matrix organization to achieve schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong working knowledge of space ground segment and satellite-to-ground communications technologies including current and potential applications
  • Ability to generate cohesive program plans
  • Demonstrated leadership of complex programs or portfolio with significant delivery or technical risk
  • Skilled in the development and implementation of program execution and growth strategies and tactics
  • Ability to track work accomplished to baseline plans and identify issues, track progress, and follow through on effective corrective actions based on data analysis and trends
  • Ability to lead others in team building, conflict resolution, motivation, leadership and advanced risk management
  • Ability to apply advanced negotiation skills to solve internal, external and customer issues
  • Skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions on programs to internal and external representatives
  • Extensive ability to understand and analyze program financial data
  • Outstanding relationship management skills
  • Outstanding risk and opportunity management skills and ability to apply them to programs
  • Extensive knowledge of government acquisition contracting practices and regulations

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of direct Program Management experience in the DoD/IC marketplace
  • Engineering degree in a discipline related to space ground segments
  • Demonstrated intimate working knowledge of government acquisition process
  • Proven ability in Business Development
  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Position requires either Work-on-Site or Flex-on-Site be selected in Employee Workspace Plan

Target salary range: USD $217,410.40/Yr. - USD $235,244.80/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
